Registered Apprenticeship is an industry-vetted and approved career pathway that is validated by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) or a State Apprenticeship Agency. This indicator reports the annual number of active apprentices in a registered apprenticeship who are residents of Elkhart County.

Registered Apprenticeships benefit both employers and individuals. Registered apprentices are a talent development strategy for employers to prepare their future workforce while meeting immediate labor needs. Individuals obtain paid work experience while receiving structured on-the-job learning and job-related classroom training. Registered apprentices earn wage increases as they learn, and upon completion of the apprenticeship, they earn a portable, nationally recognized credential. Registered apprenticeships can be provided to youth through employers as part of their high school and/or postsecondary experience and to adults through employers in partnership with training providers. Apprenticeship opportunities have been on the rise in Elkhart County, aligning with increased state and national interest in apprenticeships as an education and talent development strategy.
