High school students have the opportunity to prepare for college and career through earning dual credit. Dual credit courses allow high school students to take a college-level course and earn both high school and college credit.

Participation in dual credit courses has the potential to positively impact both high school and postsecondary outcomes. Dual credit courses allow high school students to earn college credit at no cost while they complete their high school degree. It not only provides a cost-savings for students, giving them a head start at completing a postsecondary degree, but it also provides students an opportunity to experience college-level work, develop important academic and life skills, and build confidence in their ability to complete a postsecondary degree. Dual enrollment has been found to have an overall positive impact on high school academics, high school graduation, college enrollment, and college completion.
The Indiana Department of Education’s Graduates Prepared to Success Dashboard provides data for all Indiana school districts on the number of students earning a college and career credential, including dual credit. In addition, reports from the Indiana Commission of Higher Education on college readiness provides information about dual credit for Indiana school districts and counties.
