Median Earnings by Attainment
The United States Census Bureau tracks data on educational attainment, which is defined as the highest level of education that an individual completes. In addition to looking at the overall percentages of the population at each level of educational attainment, data is also provided on the relationship between educational attainment and economic outcomes. This indicator looks at the relationship between attainment and median earnings.
Median earnings by educational attainment data, in inflation-adjusted dollars by year, as reported at the county and state level by American Community Survey data tables, collected by Horizon Education Alliance, 2010-2024 (5-year estimates only)
The data for this indicator indicate the effects of educational attainment level on median earnings. The data only include adults with earnings. While each additional level of attainment increases median earnings, the biggest increase comes with a college or graduate degree.
